hot from the presses

since this blog has gone live, good music just seems to be dropping from the sky right onto my lap. I've never been one to hoard the good stuff, so please, kindly partake of my generosity and lend me your ears.

Carey Ott - Am I Just One

Think of a bank and what comes to mind? Burly security guards and balding managers perhaps, accompanied by bored looking tellers dispensing cash. Take a second look because one of those guys could be the next superstar. Carey Ott was, and probably still is, a bank teller who happens to make beautiful music on the side. This is acoustic soul at its finest - you'd think that the man is playing in your room and meaning every single word he sings.

Simon Lynge - Love Will Come Back To You

I first heard this song when it was the backing track to a particular risque scene in a silly movie which I shan't name. The movie may have been forgettable but this song certainly isn't. It positively brims with happiness. This is another singer with the gift to touch the heart with pure musical brilliance. Also, this is a true indie story of making it good on one's on strength and talent. Lynge was born in Denmark and made his way to LA in good old fashioned indie style, meeting the right people, going through the occasional hardship before getting his record out. He's one to watch for the future.

Hotel Lights - Let Me Be the One

Continuing this theme of feel-good touching songs, we have this track by Hotel Lights, a band fronted by ex-Ben-Folds-Five member Darren Jessee. Possibly the best song in today's lineup, I beseech you to listen and bask in auditory bliss. Do it. Now.
