1. Little Angel

2. Suburban Knights

3. Television

Time to take things back to Ye Olde Continent (Europe for all the uninformed ones out there), and with that said we present to you Hard-Fi, an English indie outfit. I chanced upon them while browsing at a local record store, with the bright yellow cover of their second album (pictured above) instantly catching attention. That very intention lack of album art has been dissed as being one of the worst album covers ever, while the cover for their first album, Stars of CCTV was hailed as one of the best ever. Regardless of your opinion on their artistic choices, one can hardly find much fault with their music. Accessible to the masses without being diluted for consumption, you'll find them a pretty good listen indeed.

you probably haven't heard of this band

the foxboro hot tubs

1. Highway 1

2. She's a Saint Not a Celebrity

3. Stop Drop and Roll

You might be thinking that here's yet another band flying under the PPGRR banner, and you wouldn't be far off the mark with that assumption. Sounding a little like The Strokes, The Hives, Arctic Monkeys and The Fratellis, these fellas produce the same kind of headbanging tunes that have defined the genre. But don't dismiss them as another run-of-the-mill band. The brains, drums, guitar and vocals all hail from rock royalty. I won't reveal it here, but know once you hear the unmistakable vocals and the familiar 3 chord riffs, you shouldn't be left in much doubt as to who they are. Enjoy these samples from their debut record, Stop Drop and Roll, especially Highway 1 which was removed from the release edition.

1. Knock 'Em Out

2. Oh My God (Kaiser Chiefs Cover)

3. Not Big

This young lady has been through alot for someone who's only 23. If having a childhood laced with less-than-savoury experiences with a dash of narcotics and other rough goings can vault one to stardom, then sign us up. Backed by a strong Myspace following, Allen hosts her own show on the BBC; doesn't mind taking the occasional dig at other artists and generally presents the in your face attitude that while brash, does wonders to keeping one in the spotlight. Her own musical offerings probably benefit as much from her image as from the strengths of the songs, but don't let that detract your from any enjoyment, have a listen and judge for yourselves.

dirty pretty things

1. Deadwood

2. Bang Bang You're Dead

3. Gin And Milk

Dirty Pretty Things, formed when the Libertines splintered in 2004, sounds a little less mainstream than the standard UK post-punk-garage-rock-revival (PPGRR) outfit you often hear touted as being the next big thing. they've been flying a little low on the radar, but with the release of their third album Romance at Short Notice due at the end of June, best believe you'll be hearing more of these guys soon. In fact the band has released Hippy's Son, a sample track from the coming album. You could go to their official site to get it, but of course here at IISTNP we make things as reader-friendly as possibly so feel free to just click this

Narrow Stairs

1. Pity And Fear

2. Bixby Canyon Bridge

3. You Can Do Better Than Me

Presenting the seventh studio album from Death Cab For Cutie, which in their own words is "louder and more dissonant and... abrasive." Translation: Its way more rock and thus way more bang for your buck. This latest record is more accessible than earlier offerings, retaining some of their well-known melancholic melodies but with more distinct rock/punk influences. All in all, its a pretty good album that's going to snare many new fans while retaining the core emo fan base. Well done boys.

the next band you might have heard of (once)

Dishwalla

1. Creeps In The Stone

2. Surrender The Crown

3. Charlie Brown's Parents

The name Dishwalla might ring a bell, probably a faint one resounding off the back of their single Angels and Devils. At times presenting a more progressive hard-rock sound, at times merging the above with pseudo-emo/melancholic refrains, these guys really put the alt into alt-rock. They have a small but loyal fan-base, here's to hoping that they come out of their 2-year hiatus and go back to making their unique brand of music. enjoy

1. Umbrella

2. Spell

3. Say It Again

Here's the latest youtube sensation, having made the leap from the net to tv commercials and more, she's going to be all over the place. Whether the acoustic sets were carefully planned to garner viral grassroots support (we doubt so, but we wouldn't put it beyond the crafty execs at Disney) or a case of hard work paying off, it doesn't really matter. While retaining the charm that makes most single-white-female acts popular, there is indubitably a wealth of talent beneath the easy listening melodies. Enjoy.
